Don't Waste Dixie Mission Statement
Don't Waste Dixie centers its partnership efforts on public education of waste management issues by; bolstering community pride, endorsing and promoting the most current and beneficial recycling methods and by working to foster a clear understanding of proper waste disposal throughout the community. Don't Waste Dixie partners which include public and private entities along with a host of citizen members, are committed to enhancing the quality of life in Washington County and preserving the region's pristine beauty by keeping these landscapes clean.
An Initiative Called Don't Waste Dixie
Several years ago an initiative called Don't Waste Dixie began in the City of St. George. DWD has since spread to a county wide initiative by the collaborative efforts of representatives from both city and county entities and private businesses. Our focus is to educate Washington County residents on the growing need to keep our county beautiful through recycling and anti-litter campaigns. Last year several Cities and Washington County adopted a resolution designating the last full week of September "Don't Waste Dixie Week".
Some of our accomplishments last year consisted of several city cleanup days, a promotional booth at the Washington County Fair, an Education Day where children learned about recycling and being good stewards, and a free Electronic Recycling Collection Day. Below is a summary of this year's Don't Waste Dixie Week activities.
